2009 Chateau Busquet Lussac, St Emillion

This young Right Bank Bordeaux consisting of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon offers a bouquet of perfume, lilac, incense, compost and faint maple.  Mild to Medium in body while lending red currant, green pepper and cranberry on the palate, this wine has mild, undeveloped tannin and finishes with a pleasant, pronounced note of cocoa and moderate to heavy toasted oak.  Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.

2005 Chateau Soleil-Puisseguin Saint Emilion

Thick, dark plum hue lending a bouquet of violets, mild vanilla, limestone and heavy musk.   Really had high aspirations for this wine, but was dumbfounded and disappointed by how heavily oaked it was; I did enjoy the flavors of black currant complimented by remnants of tobacco and herbaceousness though.  Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.

Skylite Cellars 2007 Merlot Walla Walla

Let me start by saying that I am a huge Merlot fan when it is done right and this Walla Walla Merlot produced by Skylite Cellars is one of my favorites!  With a hypnotic bouquet of hedonistic, fleshy, dark fruit and an undertone of refined thick earth that seduces you into the glass, this Merlot is dense, powerful and majestic.  Once in the mouth, this gargantuan wine is unrelenting with flavors of tobacco, strawberry, luscious plum and blackberry that is so thick and flavorful it makes me lick my lips relentlessly with joy. I am truly astonished by the fact that this full bodied wine is so balanced with sleek, long tannin and a fairytale finish that makes me smile openly without regret. Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.

Duckhorn 2008 Napa Valley Merlot

Anyone who has been mislead and is having a “Sideways” misconception about Merlot will definitely have a change of heart after trying Duckhorn Vineyard’s 2008 Napa Valley Merlot.

With an extraordinarily deep dark hue and a hypnotic bouquet of juicy blackberries, blueberry pie from a perfect dream, intertwined with black currant and cassis, this velvety smooth Merlot with masterful depth, polished tannin and a glorious mouthfeel is so gracious with its giving it is astonishing.  Chock full of flavors of plum, pomegranate, clove and all spice to accompany the wonderous character of the perfect blueberry pie that is prevalent throughtout, this Merlot is truly on another level with a finish that is long and entrancing.  Keep Believing and Keep Believing!

Capezzana Barco Reale di Carmignano 2006

Carmignano is an Italian wine region located in the Tuscany region and centered around the city of Carmignano, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) northwest of Florence and were know for creating “Super Tuscan” wines before they became en vouge.   I was so excited to try this wine from this special region.

I am making an assumption that this wine could have been a little corked judging by the continuous dank flavor in the mid palate venturing all the way through the finish, but this wine as a whole was extremely unbalanced and had a rugged tannin that was very unpleasant.  On a good note, this wine did have a nice bouquet of musk and violets and some rich flavors of dark chocolate, tobacco and toasted oak, but for the most part, this wine was extremely disappointing.  Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.
