Coyote Canyon Winery, Prosser WA

Happy Wine Wednesday and I have been blessed to taste some great wines from Coyote Canyon Winery, located in south central Washington State. Here are my thoughts on what I discovered.

2013 Coyote Canyon Winery, Albarino:  This Washington state expression of the wonderful, Portuguese and Spanish white grape offers an inviting, golden hue. With clean notes of pear, spice and faint sodium on the palate. This slightly viscus, refreshing wine is well calculated and extremely food friendly with its lovely acidity.

2013 Coyote Canyon Winery, “Life is a Rose”:  This 100% semi sweet Barbera rose expresses a luscious note of perfectly ripened strawberries accompanied with a wisp of mild herbaceousness. A perfect picnic and Summertime wine that is destined to be a crowd favorite

2011 Coyote Canyon Winery, H/H Estates Buck Syrah Reserve:  Elegant, yet dense; This thoughtfully structured Syrah gifts concentrated flavors of divine dark fruit, baking spice and a wisp of rosemary.  Lamb is the ultimate pairing for this glorious red.

2011 Coyote Canyon Winery, Tres Cruces:  This 91% Syrah with a splash of Grenache and Mourvedre is medium bodied with rich savory flavors of plum, blueberry, black licorice and toasted oak.

2012 Coyote Canyon Winery, Primitivo:  With semi jammy dark fruit and wonderful notes of clove, tobacco and lime zest. Think Amador County with a little more fruit; A yummy, fullfilling Zin/Primitivo!

It was a truly an honor and wonderful ride tasting  these extremely well balanced and tasty wines. Try them for yourself here:  357 Port Avenue, Studio A, Prosser,WA, 99350, or order online. Just click the pic below.

2009 Domaine Pouillon Pierre – McKinley Spring Vineyard, Horse Heaven Hills

This massive Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah blend from Alexis and Juliet Pouillon offers a deep plum hue while expressing an enthralling nose of wild blueberry jam, concentrated blackberry and a subliminal undertone of fresh herbs. Laced with a beautiful onslaught of the most perfectly executed dark, dusty fruit, faultless tannin and a clean finish; This Washington State wine makes me a true believer in Northwest wine finally getting its due. Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.

2012 Alexandria Nicole Reserve Viognier Crawford

Lush, clean and slightly creamy. This Rhone Valley gem done within a Washington State setting offers inviting notes of pear, honeysuckle, apricot with moderate sweetness and an undertone of butterscotch;  A great pairing for spicy delights.  Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.

2009 Domaine Pouillon Katydid

Happy Saturday to all and yet another stellar offering coming from Domaine Pouillon out of Lyle, WA. This Southern Rhone blend of  55% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre offers refined, rustic aromas of pomegranate, musk, cedar and vanilla pipe tobacco, while lending a silky, smooth mouthfeel and ultra velvety tannin. An absolutely celestial wine gifting flavors of anise, licorice, milk chocolate, juicy boysenberries and a wet, refreshing finish, this is one of my favorite G.S.M blends ever and for the pricepoint of just over $20, beyond amazing!  Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.

Domaine Pouillon Black Dot 2010

This unique five grape blend from Horse Heaven Hills, Washington consists of 50% Zinfandel, 20% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Cinsault and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.  I have to say that most of the time I see a blend that has more than three grapes in it, especially when the varieties used in the blend don’t coincide with one another and are from all over the map, I get extremely weary.  Most of the time, with “Most” being the keyword here.

This generous, unconventional blend has a heavenly bouquet of walnut, mushroom, kirsh and hearty earth with a marvelous mouthfeel and sleek, smooth tannin, while bursting with offerings of lilacs, fresh herbs, meat, licorice and pleasantly tart dark fruit.  Old World Winemaking romances Washington State. An outstanding wine and Domaine Pouillon is at the top of my list for some of my favorite new wines!   Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.

Trio Vintners 2009 Grenache- Far Away Vineyard

Happy Thursday to all and have been so excited to write about this Grenache from Trio Vintners.   From a “Far Away Vineyard” which sits at 1400 feet above the Yakima Valley floor of the Rattlesnake Hills Mountains, this 100% Grenache has a contemplative, Holiday bouquet of red delicious apples, raw clove, nutmeg and vanilla extract.  Filled with flavors of delectibly, scrumptious dark berries, candied apples and partnered with smooth mellow tannin, this Grenache is very avant garde and total opposite of what you would expect coming from Grenache, but nonetheless, a very enjoyable wine!  Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.

Col Solare Winery 2007 Columbia Valley Red Wine

With the exquisiteness of a gold medal performance, this Columbia Valley Meritage Blend offers magnificent mouthfeel and poetically refined flavors of buttery toffee, mocha, dill, faint fresh mushrooms, perfume and spice.  Glorious all the way through with a generous finish.  Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.

Trio Vintners 2008 Cabernet Franc

Just found out about these small production wines out of one of my favorite wine regions in the United States- Walla Walla, Washington and was looking very forward to taste Trio Vintners 100% Cabernet Franc, which as it’s own wine can sometimes come off clunky and flat, but when done right, can be wonderfully aromatic with rich ripe fruit and superb spice.

Medium bodied and with a concentrated, fragrant nose of vanilla wafers, oak, earth and perfume, this deep purple hued wine holds a steady balance through the front palate and mid palate lending tones of dark chocolate, dill and wild dark berries.  Not a huge finish on this wine, but definitely a solid effort  and went really well with the sirloin stew I had for dinner. Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.
