2009 Robert Turner Cabernet Franc, Napa Valley

This limited, tiny production, 100% Cabernet Franc from the Stoney Springs Vineyard north of St. Helena has a deep plum hue and expressive bouquet of black pepper, lavender, golden wheat and  premium oak.  With a modest and quite pleasing alcohol level of 13%, this stellar, medium bodied wine lends brilliant layers of dark chocolate, black currant and clove while offering a generous finish of black licorice and vanilla.  Anyone that has an affinity for Cabernet Franc must indulge in this gorgeous wine available at http://robertturnerwines.com/wines.htmKeep Drinking and Keep Believing.

2008 Gamache Vintners Estate Cabernet Franc

Big, thick and full bodied 100% Cabernet Franc from Columbia Valley, Washington with rich components of baking spice, cola, blueberry, coffee, plum, black currant, dark chocolate, while graced with a dash of dill from the American Oak influence. With moderately heavy tannin and a vanilla tobacco and grassy finish, this wine should definitely be paired with a hearty dish of beef or game and not sipped on its own.  Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.

Trio Vintners 2008 Cabernet Franc

Just found out about these small production wines out of one of my favorite wine regions in the United States- Walla Walla, Washington and was looking very forward to taste Trio Vintners 100% Cabernet Franc, which as it’s own wine can sometimes come off clunky and flat, but when done right, can be wonderfully aromatic with rich ripe fruit and superb spice.

Medium bodied and with a concentrated, fragrant nose of vanilla wafers, oak, earth and perfume, this deep purple hued wine holds a steady balance through the front palate and mid palate lending tones of dark chocolate, dill and wild dark berries.  Not a huge finish on this wine, but definitely a solid effort  and went really well with the sirloin stew I had for dinner. Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.

Capezzana Barco Reale di Carmignano 2006

Carmignano is an Italian wine region located in the Tuscany region and centered around the city of Carmignano, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) northwest of Florence and were know for creating “Super Tuscan” wines before they became en vouge.   I was so excited to try this wine from this special region.

I am making an assumption that this wine could have been a little corked judging by the continuous dank flavor in the mid palate venturing all the way through the finish, but this wine as a whole was extremely unbalanced and had a rugged tannin that was very unpleasant.  On a good note, this wine did have a nice bouquet of musk and violets and some rich flavors of dark chocolate, tobacco and toasted oak, but for the most part, this wine was extremely disappointing.  Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.

2 up Shiraz 2004

Medium bodied with flavors of rustic earth, gunflint, plum, dark plump cherries, dark chocolate and a huge clay component, this Australian Shiraz has a lengthy finish of toasted oak and red apple. A very good value at $10.99.   Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.

Chime Cellars Sonoma County 2009 Pinot Noir

Saw this Pinot Noir on sale for $16.99 and noticed it had gotten “91 points” in The Wine Enthusiast,  which says to me that it was a very good value, or they spent alot of money in advertising.

From the moment I opened this wine, I loved the nose, as it lent wonderful aromas of ripe red cherries and raspberries, crisp juicy fruit, mint with a slight undertone of milk chocolate.  With a nice moderately lean mouthfeel and not overly thick like some California Pinots; I thought this wine was well on it’s way to being the ultimate steal, but was disappointed how thin the wine became after 15 minutes of being aerated.   Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.

Easton Amador County Zinfandel 2007

Adequately rounded Zin with a moderate amount of jaminess and a bouquet of perfume, clove, toasted vanilla, musk and spectrum of red fruit.  With flavors of cranberry, eucalyptus, accompanied by a hint of spice, this wine besides lacking a sturdy finish is a decent buy at under $15. Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.

Casa Lapostolle 2009 Carmenere

Chile has taken this forgotten Bordeaux blending grape often mislabeled as Merlot and turned it into a very quaffable, easy sipping wine.  With a deep tar hue and a bouquet of green pepper, wheat and rich fruit this wine is a good value at $10 and has consistent flavors of sweet berries and earth. Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.

Oddero Barbera D’Alba 2007

Found this lonely, dust laced last bottle of Barbera D’Alba at Costco and decided to take a chance on it and see if it was would bring disappointment, or a little Love.

SO MASSIVE!!!!!!!!   With an spectacular refined bouquet of Cigar Box, Cranberry, and Pomegranate while lending hedonistic amounts of balanced flavors from the Whole Spectrum of Dark Fruit integrated with subtle nuances of violets and dark chocolate, this wine keeps giving and giving and is truly not the Red Headed StepChild of the family! At $12.99, this wine is absolutely off the charts and I would buy several cases of it if it were still available.  WHAT A STEAL!   Keep Drinking and Keep Believing.
